Float with little to no expectations. Music & light can help at first; you are in control. Just keep in mind that the most beneficial way to float is without sensory stimulation. Breathe deeply and release all tension from your body. The salts allow you to float effortlessly without gravity weighing on you. If your mind drifts, let it. Don’t force anything. Trust in us, we have hosted hundreds of floats, and are always here to help.

We have a Deluxe Float Room and an Evolution Float Pod. Our tanks represent the most contemporary format for floating and offer customizable options. You can dim the lights, turn them on, or off; close the lid or keep it open; play music, or float in silence. Both tanks offer the same physical and mental benefits, the only difference is the shape and size of the float tanks. The experience is up to you! Relax, feel better, and relieve pain with a session in a float tank.

Combining massage therapy with floatation therapy brings new benefits to the table. Floating before your massage speeds up the process of your muscles relaxing, which gives the massage therapist more time with already loose muscles. Floating after your massage is also beneficial as it further cares for the problem areas that may have been targeted in your session. This package includes a 60 minute floatation therapy session and a 60 minute massage. A robe, slippers, and bag are provided for you to wear during your time in between the two services.

The Top 6 Benefits of Floatation Therapy:

REBOOT YOUR HEALTH

Stress directly impacts our immune function and debilitates our emotional well-being. As we find ways to advocate for our health, we must also prioritize ways to reduce our stress and anxiety levels.

.

RECENTER YOUR MIND

Give your eyes and mind a break. So much is happening in the world right now; but remember to rest your eyes periodically. Your brain will also thank you for a break from the 24-hour news cycle.

RECHARGE YOUR ENERGY

The womb-like environment can help you slip effortlessly into meditative states. Providing a plethora of proven benefits. You’ll feel a euphoric boost in energy, yet extremely relaxed & clear-headed.

RELEASE FROM GRAVITY

The Epsom salt in the water not only negates the effects of gravity decompressing the spine; it also reduces swelling & inflammation in your joints, providing relief, from chronic aches & stiffness. Floating increases circulation to extremities, promotes greater elimination of metabolic by products, promotes greater muscular recovery.

INCREASED STRESS RESISTANCE

Stress directly impacts our immune function & debilitates our emotional well-being. As we find ways to advocate for our health, we must also prioritize ways to reduce our stress and anxiety levels. This means that we become more resistant to the stimuli of chronic stressors bombarding us. Floating regularly can alter this.

HELP GROUND YOURSELF

Grant yourself the time and space to acknowledge sadness and gratitude. This can help you stay grounded with the current state of life. Then allow yourself to physically, mentally, emotionally check out on a regular basis. Intentionally create ‘shutdown’ time in your schedule. This can be healthy time alone, for meditation and quietude.

WANT TO FLOAT WITH US?

Here are some pre-appointment directions:

Book your float session through our website or over the phone: (336) 663-7562. It is best to create an account in our NEW booking system because it makes it easier for future bookings with any service. You can also enter our referral program and reap other rewards. Check out some of our floating FAQ’s below and other resources here, or feel free to call if you have any specific concerns. On the day of your float avoid shaving, and try not to consume a big meal or caffeine within an hour or two of your float. Arrive 15 min. early to park, de-stress, sign a waiver, and receive a thorough walk-through.

What do I need to do to be prepared?
We provide earplugs, A & D ointment to cover minor cuts, spray bottle of water, and a washcloth for inside the tank if the water were to get into your mouth or eyes. Be prepared to remove contact lenses.

You have a private shower in your room to rinse off any lotions or oils before your session. All natural & hypoallergenic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for after your session. A fresh towel, Q-tips, and a little ginger candy are in your room as well.

If you have a combination package (lucky you!) we provide a robe, slippers, and bag for you to borrow while going to your next appointment. Please just get dressed in your private room after your appointment.

Changes due to Covid-19: Currently we no longer have lotion in the rooms and cannot provide our silicone swim caps to protect hair. Our amenities to dry and style your hair with your own brush in our restroom area after you appointment have also been removed. So please bring those if you need to and be mindful of the time you spend getting ready.

Please bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, as we cannot offer water at this time. Last but not least please wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth. However, you do not need to wear one in your float room, sauna room, or bathroom.

Do I need to bring anything?
Nope! Just bring yourself. You can bring a swimsuit, however most prefer to float in the nude as material on the body stimulates the senses. You are in your own private room with a private shower and we provide everything you need for your float: towels, earplugs, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. If you need a tampon or an individual make-up wipe just ask!
We do have hair dryers, spray deodorant, hair product, lotions, etc. for you to finish getting ready for your day in the restroom areas.

*Please bring your own hair brush/comb*. For guests enjoying multiple services, we will have a robe, slippers, and tote for you to wear in between your services so you won’t have to get dressed to get undressed again.

Is the water clean?
After each float, all the saltwater in the tank is cycled through an advanced filtering process 3-4 times. These filters are fully effective to one micron, which is 100 times smaller than a human hair. In addition, the 1,500 lbs. of Epsom salt that are dissolved into the water acts as a natural disinfectant. On top of this, we maintain a safe level (100 ppm) of hydrogen peroxide, a powerful disinfectant. Water sanitation is extremely important to us, so we continually test and monitor it to make sure it is perfectly clean and safe, so you can relax knowing the environment is completely sterile. The rooms are thoroughly cleaned, dried, disinfected, and inspected before each float session. We are all about the details and we know a clean environment makes relaxing and letting go that much easier.
What if I am claustrophobic?
People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems with floating. Our staff does a very thorough walkthrough and feel free to let them know if you have any concerns or more questions. You can float with lights on or off, and music on or off – buttons for these are right by your side. You can also simply keep the pod/door open should you feel the need, and can get out anytime. A lot of people who believe they are claustrophobic feel very strongly about not being able to float in the float pod (versus the float room). However, 85% of the diagnostically claustrophobic clients prefer the pod because it is not as expansive or “limitless” and therefore feel more comfortable being in the more womb-like pod.
What happens if I fall asleep?
It’s totally safe, happens all the time and will likely be one of the best naps of your life! You won’t miss everything since your body is soaking up all those physical benefits. Also, we won’t forget about you, a woman’s voice comes on to let you know when your float session is over and when the water starts moving you definitely know it is over. Studies have proven that one hour of sleep in a float tank is worth four hours of sleep outside of one. Nuts!
How often can a person float?
Magnesium is absorbed through your skin. We say it takes about three floats to really find your floating style. Part of that is knowing if you prefer the float room or the float pod, not getting water into your eyes, letting your mind not attach to that stupid thing that happened in 7th grade…you know. So the first float is an amazing experience and it gets better the more you do it. Our packages are the best way for you to experience several floats and then if you are hooked we would love for you to become a member. You are investing in us and we want to invest in you so you get lots of perks. So back to how often, we wouldn’t recommend over committing and saying you are going to float once a week. This type of membership is for a couple, family, or avid athlete. However, we have a handful of dedicated members that will do tests and float everyday for a week A month can get away from us so quickly so 1 float a month is the perfect tool to add to your self-care routine.
Can I eat before I float?
We recommend having a light meal or snack a few hours before the float so you won’t be interrupted by a grumbling stomach or won’t be needing to use the bathroom in the middle of your session. Also, avoid caffeine a few hours prior to entering the pod.
When should I arrive?
Life is crazy. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early if this is your first float session and you haven’t filled out the waivers necessary. There is pretty much “paperwork” for each brand new session at Sonder but once you have filled it out once you are done.

If this is not your first time and/or you completed the waivers ahead of time then arriving 5 to 10 minutes early is best just so you are able to take a few minutes to wind down before your session begins. You can use the restroom, read, do some deep breathing, recite a mantra, or simply close your eyes. All members may use the lounge before & after their sessions. *If you are late time will be deducted from your float session.*

Entering your float room in a relaxed state will maximize your float experience. After your 60 minutes of bliss, it can be jolting to jump right back into the chaos of your day. After exiting your private float room, take time to soak in the experience that you just had. Journal, feel free to relax in The Well Cafe and order some delicious tea or our hydrating cold-pressed watermelon juice. Ponder any thoughts that may have come up during your session, or simply bask in the amazing post-float afterglow.

Which Tank Should I Float In?
We are partial to both. Try each type and see if you have a preference. First-time floaters may appreciate the high ceilings in the Ocean Float Room to get their feet wet, so to speak. The Evolution Pod is the tank of choice of the XLIX Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots, who installed one in their training room at the start of the 2014-2015 season.

Floating is a unique opportunity to completely relax your body and mind. Perfectly supported by a skin temperature solution of 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt and water, you’ll lose track of where your body ends and the water begins. What should I expect?
Be without expectations! The beauty of Sonder Mind and Body is the services we offer are not only for physical, therapeutic healing and recovery but also for mental relaxation. Floating can allow your mind to go wherever it wants to go with no constraints. Forcing expectations upon the experience will inhibit the natural journey that your mind wants to take.

It is a different experience. Your body is in an environment it probably hasn’t been in since birth. So it may take some getting used to. We tell clients to stretch in the water, try different positions, push off the sides of the tank in a relaxing rhythmic way

Do not float & should not float…
<ul

  • Do not float today: while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you have recently dyed your hair, please schedule your session when your hair color has set, typically one week after your coloring.. -If you have any large open cuts or sores (the Epsom salt will burn it).
if you have a cold or the flu, incontinence, flatulence or hemorrhoids, any infectious diseases, infected skin rashes, seizure prone, or suicidal.
  • If you have scheduled an appointment and need to cancel with us, please let us know that you are cancelling due to illness.
  • If you feel like you cannot physically get in or out of the tanks you may have some assistance. We meet ADA requirements, however the nature of the water and tank design can make it difficult to get in and out of.
  • under 16 years of age without a guardian present to sign the waiver, or postnatal. If you are uncertain, always consult your physician.
How long is a session?
Everyone’s First Float Session at Sonder Mind and Body starts with a first float walkthrough by a Sonder staff member, then you will quickly rinse off in your private room, then float for 1 hour/60 minutes in the water. Once the hour is up you will need to fully shower and we just ask that you are mindful that there will be other clients waiting for their appointment. After showering and getting dressed you can finish getting ready in the restroom area then bask in your post-float glow in The Well Cafe. After a First Float Session, the Pure Float sessions are also 60 minutes however we offer 90-minute float sessions as a $20.00 upgrade. If you become a float member, and we hope you do, you can upgrade to a 90-minute float for free. If you want to float any longer just let us know and we can work something out. Fun Fact: Your skin will not get wrinkly? Epsom salt will inhibit the water from saturating your skin.
That’s a lot of salt. What is magnesium sulfate?
It’s magic. Magnesium Sulfate is a mineral, which has been shown to help detoxify the body, strengthen the immune system, trigger the release of endorphins (happy chemicals), and provide relief from physical, mental, and emotional stress and fatigue. Epsom Salt is Magnesium Sulphate and is nontoxic. It can help to soothe your muscles by breaking down the lactic acid that makes muscles sore. It actually softens your skin and may even reduce the look of wrinkles. Magnesium is important in that it helps keep enzyme activity regular in your body, and it helps about 312 of your bodily functions to run smoothly. More than half of all Americans have a magnesium deficiency, which is believed to be a factor in all kinds of health problems. Sulfate also plays an important role in the way in which your body works: It has a role in the formation of brain tissue and joint proteins, and it can strengthen the walls of the digestive tract [source: Epsom Salt Council].
Floating while menstruating?
Yep. Just use the same protocol you’d use for a swimming pool if you are comfortable with your flow. If you are not comfortable we completely understand and we will reschedule your float for another day. It happens to the best of us.
Floating while pregnant?
Yes, it’s amazing! It’s probably the craziest, most stressful period of your life. Pregnant women have used floating to relieve the stress on their bodies for decades. If you’re in your first trimester or have any concerns, please consult with your doctor before booking a float. Let your doctor know that the water is around your outside body temperature; so never above 95°F.
How much time do I have to shower after my float?
We have allotted shower time after enjoying your full 60 minutes in the float tank. We expect you will emerge 10 to 15 minutes after your session has ended. We have mirrors, blow dryers, hair, and beauty products located outside the float rooms so you can finish getting ready outside. This allows us to reset the rooms for the next float sessions.

If you are unable to exit the float room in a timely manner and we cannot reset the room for the next client we will have to charge you for the next float.

First Float Walkthrough

1. We will take you to your private float room where we demonstrate a thorough walkthrough of the entire float experience and how to use the facilities.
2. Your Deluxe Float Room and Evolution Float Pod session is in a private room with a private shower. For your floatation session, Sonder provides silicone earplugs, vaseline to cover any scrapes, the float HALO which allows for a more comfortable floating experience by positioning your head in a more natural alignment with the rest of your body. The room is also stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion,q-tips, a washcloth, and two plush towels.
3. Step into the pod nude, lay on your back, find a position that feels most comfortable, and try the float HALO if you feel it’s needed.
4. After a few minutes, your spine will decompress and you’ll start to lose track of where your body ends and the water begins – transcending all distractions and discomforts of the body.
5. You are in control of leaving the lights on or off, music on or off, and even if you would like the door or pod lid open or closed. All of our sessions are for one hour. Please ask us about music choices before your appointment, bring an audio jack and we can play audio from your phone, we also offer guided meditations by Lauren Hall from Modern Day Hypnosis to be played. There are so many possibilities and you do not have to go completely ‘no light and no sound’ until you are ready.
6. Exit the float room or pod carefully, shower, our bathrooms are stocked with blow dryers and amenities for your hair and skin (you just need to bring your own comb or brush), share your experience, and bask in your post-float glow while enjoying a hydrating elixir or smoothie from The Well Cafe!

Physical Benefits

Relaxation Response
Sensory deprivation suppresses the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for our ‘fight or flight’ response and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation, healing, and replenishment. Some physical symptoms of the relaxation response are decreased muscle tension, decreased blood pressure, decreased stress hormones, and increased endorphins.
Enhanced Healing & Rejuvenation
Floating increases circulation to extremities, promotes greater muscular relaxation, prevents adrenal fatigue, and reduces muscle inflammation. For guests enjoying multiple services, we will have a robe, slippers, and tote for you to wear in between your services so you won’t have to get dressed to get undressed again.
Pain Management
The anti-gravity environment of the float tank has been well documented to provide relief to many issues caused by rigid postures such as lower-back pain, neck pain, inflammation, tendinitis, shallow breathing, high blood pressure, and even fibromyalgia.
Increased Stress Resistance
Regular floating can alter the set-points in the endocrine homeostatic mechanism which can cause adjustments such as a lower adrenal activation threshold. This means that we become more resistant to the stimuli of chronic stressors bombarding us in modern urban settings.
Magnesium Absorption
The extremely high concentration of Epsom salts are absorbed through the skin and will supplement your diet with a mineral that has been shown to be deficient in the average population’s diet. Mg can prevent cardiovascular disease, regulate high blood pressure, prevent osteoporosis, relieve menopause symptoms, provide PMS relief, create healthier bones and teeth, and is involved with detoxification.
Heightened Senses
Research indicates increased visual acuity, improved tactile perception, improved auditory sensitivity, and increased taste sensitivities after floating.

Mental Benefits

Meditation and Mindfulness
Meditation has a plethora of researched benefits and floating is a unique and phenomenal tool to cultivate mental stillness. It often generates a sensation of being intensely awake yet extremely relaxed; presence. It can induce theta-state brain waves and allows for one to remain conscious in this frequency instead of falling asleep.

*We do offer recordings of Guided Meditations by Lauren Hall. She also offers a service called Guided into Water which has been proven to help individuals who think they struggle with meditation.

Improve Sleeping Patterns
Many people report drastically improved sleeping abilities. 60 minutes in the float tank can feel like 3-4 hours of sleep because it is extremely refreshing and will reset your circadian rhythms. Also, magnesium plays a key role in the bodily function that regulates sleep, making insomnia one of the symptoms of magnesium deficiency.
Endorphins
Floating and the relaxation response flood the body with endorphins. These neurotransmitters are responsible for relieving us from pain, enhancing our mood (decreasing feelings of depression to potentially generating feelings of euphoria), they can suppress our appetite, and decrease anxiety, leaving us in a calm and clear state of being.
Behavior Modification
Floating is a great way to bring greater awareness to various patterns of behavior. Floating has shown to have beneficial effects such as decreased anxiety and depression; increased calmness or sense of well-being; it has shown fantastic results towards anti-smoking assistance as well as positive effects on weight-loss programs.
Brain Synchronization
After settling into the floating experience research has shown greater hemisphere synchronization (promoting greater communication between the right (creative side) and left (analytical side) lobes; the majority of people are left-dominated. Also, people experience increased vertical communication between the primitive reptilian brain, the limbic middle or mammalian brain and the conscious neocortex. These synchronizing reactions can cause elevated states of creativity, greater non-linear connections, and deeper realizations.
Visualization
The combination of being extremely relaxed while intensely awake allows techniques of visualization to become very powerful. From athletes preparing for competition to public speakers rehearsing a presentation, floating can induce the calm needed to perform at one’s best. Research on mental rehearsal has shown it to be just as practical as physical rehearsal.
Super Learning
With the brain being held in a theta wave-length, the mind becomes hyper-suggestible. With fewer distractions and greater resources at its disposal, the mind is able to absorb new material very deeply with research showing improved performance in memory and recall activities. It is great to use in conjunction with exam preparation
