Whole Family Chiropractic Care with Dr. Liana Hastings

Who can benefit from care at Hastings Chiropractic and Bodywork?

Anyone! Whether you are a high functioning athlete who wants to maintain mobility, a stay at home mom who suffers from headaches, or you work at a desk and experience chronic upper back and neck tightness, everyone can benefit from chiropractic care. Dr. Hastings works with men, women, and children of all ages to improve health and quality of life.

Dr. Liana Hastings is Webster Technique certified to offer safe prenatal chiropractic care through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. Webster Technique offers gentle balancing of the joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons of the pelvis to promote an enjoyable pregnancy and safe labor. Webster Technique allows baby to get into the optimal position and may reduce the risk of dystocia (slowed progress) during labor, which may lead to less need for medical intervention and a more natural birth.

How do we improve function, support healthy movement, and reduce discomfort?

Healthy, balanced movement depends on multiple factors, including physical strength, endurance, body composition, and mobility. Despite physical fitness and regular activity, proper muscle activation and functional potential may be inhibited by underlying joint adhesions and imbalances. Chiropractic care helps to unlock the potential of individuals by maximizing the performance of muscles and joints, reducing recovery time following injury and preventing soft tissue damage. Hastings Chiropractic and Bodywork takes a biomechanical and functional approach to care by identifying the underlying cause of dysfunction and coordinating manual therapies to improve function and reduce discomfort.

Chiropractic Adjustment
A chiropractic adjustment helps to maintain or improve joint mobility by combating joint restrictions and myofascial adhesions. Aberrant joint movements and repetitive activities can cause a joint to lose complete mobility, leading to the risk of further injury due to compensation. Regular adjustments can restore full active range of motion and prevent excess strain on accessory joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a soft tissue movement and stretching technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Muscle binds up in response to injury in an attempt to create stability, which in turn leads to dense, fibrous, and ineffective muscle tissue referred to as a trigger point. The goal of myofascial release is to restore optimal texture, motion, and function to soft tissues, leading to the release of entrapped nerves and blood vessels and the improvement of muscle performance.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
IASTM utilizes the same principles as myofascial release, but with the use of tools to release fascial adhesions and improve blood flow in areas of restriction. Many patients experience immediate relief of pain and loss of range of motion with this technique.
Post-Isometric Relaxation Technique
Post-isometric relaxation (PIR) technique calls on the neurologic pathways of the brain in order to lengthen and stretch an especially problematic muscle group. The patient is asked to activate dysfunctional muscle fibers against resistance, which produces exhaustion and reduces the tone of an overdeveloped muscle to improve function and reduce discomfort.
Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology taping helps to maintain the results we have achieved in treatment. The tape can be utilized to maintain elongation and performance of muscles for days following treatment. The tape can also be applied to reduce bruising, swelling, shorten recovery time following injury, and provide support for belly during pregnancy!
